CERAMIC COATINGS FOR AIRCRAFT

Ceramic Coatings for Aircraft: Twin Engine Airplane

Metallic ceramic coatings have been in use for over two decades and have seen widespread usage in numerous applications, including aircraft parts. For many years however, these products were only available to NASA and the military. Based on documented performance gains, the popularity and use of metallic ceramic coatings increased. During this time the quality of the coating materials has undergone several generations of improvements with the addition of numerous product groups.

Ceramic Coatings from LEW Inc. can be applied to many parts on your aircraft to increase the life and durability of those aircraft parts, including the following aircraft parts and applications:

Exhaust Springs
By applying a properly formulated dry film lubricant, the life of the exhaust spring can be enhanced significantly. In testing, exhaust spring life in performance applications has shown increases from 2 to 10 times the norm.
Exhaust Manifolds and Pipes
The end result of a coated manifold or header is better performance, better appearance, reduced corrosion and reduced component and under cowl temperatures.
Turbochargers and Superchargers
Turbochargers and superchargesrs are driven by the hot exhaust gases. Improve performance on the hot side will be seen when more of the heat energy is channeled through the turbine and out the pipe with heat barriers. By keeping heat within the manifold, the exhaust gas velocity will accelerate which also reduce back pressure. Secondly, the surface temperature of the manifold is reduced. If there is a component close to it (alternator or starter for example), it will not see as much heat as it would with the turbo left uncoated. In addition, not as much heat will be radiated under the cowl or into the engine compartment and thereby reduce under cowl temperatures. It also reduces the amount of heat that can be drawn in through the carburetor, which is a secondary performance benefit. The coating will enhance the appearance and eliminate the rust on this often neglected component.
Restoration and Storage
Internals of engines not going to be run for any length of time are subject to corrosion. The unique properties of dry film lubricants with their ability to attract oil as well as protecting surfaces from rust and corrosion are perfect for protecting these sometimes rare components. On that occasional start up they also prevent damage by providing short term dry lubrication until the oil arrives.

The listing above is only a sample of aircraft parts and applications that are good candidates to receive a metallic ceramic coating from LEW Inc. We encourage you to contact us so that you can discuss how applying a ceramic coating to your aircraft can help increase the life and durability of those aircraft parts.
